PlanetProof Plant products

'On the way to PlanetProof' is another and international name for Milieukeur Plant products; PlanetProof's sustainability criteria are fully identical to those of Milieukeur. As of 1-1-2019, Milieukeur for Plant products will be replaced by PlanetProof. The Accreditation Board monitors and accredits the Milieukeur certification system.

PlanetProof has a broad approach towards sustainable plant production. The most important PlanetProof sustainability themes for plant-based products are:

  • Crop protection and emission
  • Fertilisation and soil fertility
  • Energy and climate
  • Biodiversity and landscape
  • Water quality and quantity
  • Packaging and waste
  • Working conditions

PlanetProof certified farmers and growers will also contribute to achieving some of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:

  • Energy
  • Production and Consumption
  • Climate
  • Water
  • Soil, Landscape and Biodiversity

PlanetProof plant products have a high quality impact:

  • Strong and healthy plants
  • Safe and clean products

  • Nesting opportunities for bees, birds, etc.

Healthy crops, helping nature

  • Stimulating biological and mechanical control of diseases, pest and weeds
  • Exclusion of harmful pesticides
  • A limit on the total amount of pesticides used

Water quality and quantity

  • Preventing emissions of pesticides and fertilisers into ground water and surface water
  • Saving and reusing water

Fertile soil

  • Maintaining fertility of the soil
  • Efficient use of fertilisers

Climate and environment

Reducing the carbon footprint, for example by means of:

  • Limitations on energy consumption
  • Use of sustainable energy
  • Limitations on nitrous oxide emissions (soil / fertilisation measures)

Farmer and employees

  • Good and safe working conditions
  • Appreciation for a more sustainably-grown product

  • Inspections and certifications are carried out in accordance with European standards (ISO/IEC 17065:2012) under the supervision of the Dutch Accreditation Council
  • PlanetProof certificate holders will be inspected twice annually by an independent certification body
  • Assessment of the use of authorised pesticides takes place on the basis of registration records, purchase invoices, and checks for residues of pesticides by ISO 17025-accredited laboratories
